Wood Smoke Photos

  • The exhaust coming from the top of a chimney should be perfectly clear or white with steam. A plume of blue or gray smoke indicates that you have a problem.
    •   A plume, shown below, is a major problem to humans, animals and to our planet.

    The Birds Are Leaving!  These photos were taken when a wood fired furnace was "outside" - this is know as an OWB - outdoor wood fired boiler or furnace.  To dodge regulations, some homeowners are now installing these OWBs "inside" their homes.  These units create as much smoke and harmful particulates as OWBs -  the only difference is they are placed inside garages, sheds or someplace else inside.  These are IWBs  indoor wood burning boilers or furnaces. 

    The owner of the house affected by this now IWB has noticed that the birds no longer nest on her property; not in their usual, annual nesting spots, not at all.  The birds have gone because of the smoke.  They are wise enough to know their young cannot be raised in an environment polluted by putrid wood smoke.  Humans should not be exposed to this smoke either. Unfortunately, many negatively impacted homeowners can't up and leave their homes.  So they are forced to involuntarily inhale toxic wood smoke, at all times of the year, even in sizzling summer temperatures.
